Geoff has held senior executive roles in the APS, the resources sector and banking and finance. The focus of these roles has been primarily on workplace and cultural change and the policies and systems to implement and sustain major improvements in performance and behaviour at the national, enterprise and workplace level. In the APS the focus was on national policies to support industrial relations and workplace reform and in the private sector as a thought leader and advisor on the development of enterprise bargaining, employee engagement and labour market reform. A particular focus within the companies where Geoff has been employed has been on the development of organisational and leadership capabilities to understand and lead cultural change at the workplace and understand and apply the building blocks of employee engagement. He has continued to provide this support to a range of private, public and not for profit organisations in his consulting practice which is informed by his ongoing research work as Visiting Industry Scholar at the Workplace Research Centre, Sydney University.

  Geoff’s roles have included, during most of the 1980s, First Assistant Secretary Department of Employment and Industrial Relations, from 1989 Chief Advisor Employee Relations CRA, Rio Tinto and various general manager roles in organisation development and employee relations in the Group’s operating business units such as Comalco Aluminium from 1995 to 2000. For the next five years work in similar roles at the Commonwealth Bank initially as Head of Leadership, Systems and Research and then as  Executive General Manager Group Human Resources , when his role was expanded to include employee relations policy and strategy and Occupational Health and Safety.

 

In the course of his career, Geoff has worked with the International Labour Office in Geneva, as a national trade union advocate and has taken on a number major overseas assignments in New Zealand, the UK, the USA, South America (Venezuela) and most recently in the Middle East in Oman.
